Yael Grinwald

Born in 1963, Israel
Residing in Kiryat Ono creates in Tel Aviv.
Grinwald is an artist who focuses mainly on painting and drawing. Many of her works stem from a narrative or emotional idea, usually represented by figures and their relationships in different situations. Through her works, Grinwald provides personal interpretations of cultural and family history, the world of movement and dance, which she comes from, bodily tasks, and personal experiences. Her work is often characterized by series that reflect her exploratory nature of work, express the leading themes arising from her inner world and offers a personal, abstract reflection of a figurative world. The works are created on various types of canvases and other substrate using mixed techniques with a variety of materials, but primarily using oil paints. The size and formats of the works vary.

Artist Statement

Art for me, is a chain of slow, fast, short, long, deep, and meditative breaths that allow me the virtuosity of lines, spots, turns, and jumps on the canvas. The intense passion is what leads and sweeps me inside the art, deeper every time. My work is characterized by exploratory, Sisyphean, and ongoing processes from which both series and bodies of work are born. The exploration of a subject/image and deepening into it and the various means of expression lead to the creation of bodies of work. I find myself working on several pieces simultaneously, often feeling that there are more and more possibilities for development and continuation.
Painting for me responds to a need for expression and interpretation of reality, ideas, thoughts, and feelings through breaking down the way of observation and using various means of expression.
